From eruptive to tender: Emre Yavuz plays Rachmaninoff
The 30-year-old Turkish pianist Emre Yavuz shows with this Rachmaninov-CD his highly virtuosic skills and also his poetic creativity. He is certainly a keyboard acrobat, yet one of the clearest kind. Even with the most complex chords his playing remains deeply transparent. But he also loves contrasts and here the Second Sonata offers him a lot of material to tear the listener away from tender moods. With this musicality, the Rachmaninov Sonata becomes a great experience between powerful but still aesthetic sound and tender or reflective moments in which the pianist always appears just as honest. The Preludes, razor sharply chiselled, eruptive here, dreamy there, crown a CD that shows a musician with excellent technique and a strong personality.
